I grew up in Germany, in a historic little town called Langenberg, where I spent my first 24 wonderful years. After high school I worked as an apprentice in a bank, lived for 5 months in Paris and studied business and marketing in the most beautiful student town of Aachen, on the border to the Netherlands and Belgium. Until one sunny day, when I was cycling along in Breisach, in the south of Germany, and bumped (kind off) into my now Australian husband, who was on a bike tour through Europe. We spent the next five days on a romantic cycle along the Rhine, getting lost in translation.
In 1999, I moved, mit "Sack und Pack" (literally everything I owned), to Sydney, just so that I didn't have to worry anymore about the biggest problem everyone had back then: where to spend New Years Eve 2000?
Today we are still living in Sydney together with three wonderful daughters, our dog Pluto and Elli, our cat.
I have enjoyed making things for as long as I can remember. I just love using my hands and playing with colours, textiles and paper. As a result (and after a few detours) I studied surface design at the international school for colour and design in Sydney.
I enjoy designing patterns and working with my fabrics, making dresses, cushions, scarves, covering chairs and notepads, and whatever else needs 'beautification'. I get inspired from anything that grabs my attention: books, nature, people, exhibitions, media, holidays, day to day objects, memories...
When I design patterns I am drawn to clean shapes and line work. I create bold, large scale patterns to lighten up our everyday life.
I started painting when I was a student. Over the years I attended many courses in life drawing, oil painting, water colour and pastels. At present I paint mainly in acrylics on canvas or paper. I often add pastels for whimsical line work. Acrylics suit my painting style of layering lots of colour and shapes on top of each other. Most of my paintings are abstract and reflect in some way or another my inner world - past and present experiences, memories, emotions and images.
I get inspired by flowers, landscapes or a beautiful memory. But then I get carried away and the painting becomes the expression of my inner world, where thoughts, experiences, feelings and images are all mixed up. I use colour and line work to feel an internal harmony. Literally until the painting feels right. The less I think the better it gets. In fact, I try very hard not to think and just to feel or sense what is needed.
I love my family in Germany, Spain and Australia, Langenberg, friends, coffee, tea, reading, painting, designing, drawing, yoga, pilates, tennis, cycling, laughing, red wine, baking, eating, everything sweet (and German), embroidery, raffia weaving, candles, craft, walking, socialising, jokes, fizz whizz, staying up late, our house, our neighbourhood, comedy, theatre, opera choirs, trees and flowers, rocks and everything beautiful or in any way interesting. I don't like: sticky fingers, low fat products and going to bed early.
